ATTRACTIONS

Florida offers the visitor and resident alike opportunities to visit and participate in many world-class attractions. For Lake Bonnet residents, many of these are day-trips. Attractions such as Orlando's Walt Disney World, Sea World or Universal Studios;
The Kennedy Space Center on the Atlantic Coast or the Florida State Fair in Tampa. For trips further afield, overnight in Naples, Miami or St. Augustine and see the sights.

FAIRS

The Sebring Fireman stage an annual Highlands County Fair each February which includes traditional events, beauty pageant, carnival and live-stock show. The Lake Placid County Fair, also held in February, is known for its extensive and varied displays of country arts, crafts and blue ribbon pies, jams and jellies and entertainment such as cloggers, oldies music and gospel. Early in March, Pioneer Park Days are held in Zolfo Springs with almost 500 flea market booths and with some 400 steam and gas engines, antique tractors and old cars dot the landscape.

SEBRING INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

Sebring is the home of America’s oldest and most famous road racing track. Founded over a half century ago, Sebring International Raceway is the Mecca of sports car racing in North America, hosting the famous Mobil 1 "Twelve Hours of Sebring" Endurance Race every March. Sebring is the premier event on the American Le Mans Series schedule, attended by nearly 100,000 people each year from around the world. A Historic Sports Car Race is held two weeks prior to the 12-hour classic each year and also draws sports car racing enthusiasts from far and wide.

MUSEUMS

Grandparents at a loss for ideas can transport children to a whole new world of imagination. The museum is a safe venue for children to learn and explore The museum is located at 219 North Ridgewood Drive in downtown Sebring and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A small admission fee is charged.

In the Military Sea Services Museum, visitors will find artifacts dating back to WWII. Many displays are personal possessions of veterans. The museum is located on the corner of Kenilworth Blvd. and Roseland Ave in Sebring. For more information call (863) 471-2386.

The SFCC Museum of Florida Art and Culture features the artists of Florida. The exhibits change about every 6 weeks.  The museum is open to the public with no admission charge - 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to Friday and by appointment fro groups. It is located on the South Florida Community College Avon Park campus on Highway 27.

Picturesque railroad stations are home to historical museums in Avon Park and Lake Placid, where visitors can explore the history of these communities. The historic Sebring Railroad Station, still in active use for daily AMTRAK service, has undergone a complete restoration and has again become a favorite place to visit or just to watch the trains come and go.
